Trapping is a form of hunting that requires more set up than actual pursuit. Typically, trapping is done with some sort of man made trap which encloses the prey, either dead or alive, and keeps it their for the hunters own purposes. This is done for either population control and research purposes but very little of it is done for actual sport. Because of this, the game that trapping offers is very dull with most of it consisting of wild boars, rabbits, raccoons, foxes or any other animal that might be a nuisance to the outlying community. In fact, in some states you need a Nuisance Animal Removal permit to legally trap and or kill the animals. Traps come in all different shapes and sizes and from the very complex machines, to the more basic fence traps. What they almost all consist of though is a bait (typically food) which is used to lure one or many animals to the same location before the trap will spring into action either killing or imprisoning the animal. The trap usually springs into action when the animals weight triggers it but can also be set off by human interaction. The trapping process is done completely without fire arms of any kind. While some may consider trapping to be cruel because it can become a mass animal killing, it is important to remember that without trapping some animals species would become so overpopulated that it would pose a threat to the society surrounding it. Also, while some people may not consider trapping a form of hunting, it technically is since it involves finding and killing the prey. Overall trapping is a less glamorous, less talked about form of hunting that is actually very important and used worldwide to keep populations under control and to conduct scientific research.
