A Different Way to Catch your Prey
Welcome to a hunter's dream blog. Here, I will elaborate on a few different techniques of hunting to educate as well as entertain seasoned hunters in their quest to take down big game. As a hunter, it is important to be skilled in more than one technique of hunting so you can be well rounded and prepared for anything. This blog will inform you about all the rules, regulations, and gear you need to hunt different types of animals in different ways so you can become the ultimate hunter.
Varmint Hunting is a less glamorous and also less restricted
method of hunting that is defined as 'the selective killing of non-game animals
seen as pests' (Wikipedia). It can be done in any number of ways as long as the
'pests' are killed. In this type of hunting, the game is not seen as a trophy
or seen as a meal but rather the carcass is just left for nothing. Some varmint
hunting game includes rodents, coyotes, feral hogs or anything else that is disruptive to the community or is overpopulating an ecosystem. Usually, the US government will set out a bounty on such animals that are deemed 'destructive'
in order to help control the natural population.

Upland Hunting is essentially another way of saying bird hunting, or almost any sort of game that you would hunt from the ground shooting into the air. These include pheasants, quail, duck, grouse, and more. This is a more popular type of hunting mainly due to it's safe and easy nature. Kids as well as older people can do it. It is good for beginners because the game is bountiful and easy to track and kill compared to something like a deer where you may not even find one at all. It can also be done across the US, or even the world as wherever there is a good climate, there are sure to be game birds that are available to hunt. Various bird calls will improves the process of tracking and attracting the game even further, making for some up close shooting. The best weapon to use on an upland hunting trip would easily be a shotgun. Any other weapon would not come close to the amount of game you could catch with just a couple well aimed shots from a shotgun. Of course, for the few ground based game that Upland Hunting has to offer, it is possible, but harder, to use a bow. Once the upland game is killed, it is most likely eaten as things such as ducks, turkey and chicken all can make some very tasty meals and have become very popular American foods. Upland hunting, like many other forms of hunting, is usually done in the fall and spring seasons but can occasionally be done in winter and summer depending on the state or region you live in. Overall, it is good type of hunting for hunters of all age and experience and requires less patience than other forms of hunting making it a more leisurely experience than an intense one.

Big Game Hunting is the most well known form of hunting. Big game means hunting any sort of animal that is large and is being hunted for trophy and/or food purposes. Some popular big game animals include an assortment of different types of deer, bears, boar and so much more. It is recommended for experienced hunters as the prey can be more difficult to track and requires much more patience. It is popular all across the US as well as the world with game ranging from an African water buffalo to an Alaskan moose. Big game hunting is typically done with a rifle but if you are a seasoned veteran, you may even dare to use a bow. Bow hunting requires serious skill, not only to accurately shoot the bow, but to get close enough to your prey in order to deliver a good, clean shot. If you are not good enough to use a bow but want to try something besides a rifle, a crossbow would be something that would give just enough challenge to make your next hunt a bit interesting. Of course, you need to find your prey before even thinking about shooting it which is much more of a challenge when hunting big game. Various animal calls are able to be purchased and can benefit you during an animal's mating season as they will be more apt to come close to the sound of the call. Another strategy is buying a tree stand and sitting in a tree until your game shows up. This can be a relaxing way to take in the scenery of your environment without worrying about scaring away your prey. Remember no matter how good you think you are, never go hunting alone in the wilderness. You never know what may be out there and it is always better to be with at least one other hunter.

Safari Hunting is a step of from even big game hunting. It is usually reserved for the most experienced hunters and is considered the most dangerous type of hunting simply because of the types of animals you are encountering. Safari hunting is technically just big game hunting but with more exotic and dangerous animals. It is usually done in Africa although it can be done in some parts of Asia and Australia as well. Lion, crocodile, cape buffalo, leopard and even elephants are all animals that are available to take in a Safari hunting trip. As you can probably tell, this sort of game is extremely dangerous and you will need a special permit in order to go hunting for it. Once you manage to get a permit, it is highly recommended to go hunting and travel in a caravan fashion with a couple of hunters and some local guides who know they lay of the land. This is primarily for safety reasons as the animals you are hunting, may also be hunting you but are less likley to if you are with a group of others. This is especially common with lions who are known to hide extremely well in plain sight and are very aggressive towards humans. Unlike most animals, they also are not typically scared of the sound of gunfire. On top of all this, they usually do not travel alone so where there is one Lion, many more are sure to be around. The proper equipment for this type of hunting definitely includes firearms such as rifles and shotguns. It is obviously safer to shoot your prey from far away but since this prey also may charge you, a powerful shotgun is always a good weapon to bring along as a last resort. Overall, safari hunting should be reserved for the most seasoned of hunters and only those who enjoy a real challenge. With all the danger involved, safari hunting is extremely exciting for better or worse.

Fishing is technically a form of hunting but without the use of a firearm. Instead of hunting big game on land, you are hunting game in a pond or ocean. This can be done either from land with a fishing pole or from underwater with a spear gun. Many may think of fishing to be a relaxing, slow, and maybe even boring pastime, but their are many sea creatures that will put up a good fight making them dangerous to hunt for. For every bass in a pond, you also have various sharks, marlins, and tuna in the ocean which are sure to challenge fisherman with their brute strength and tenacity. Fishing, unlike some other forms of hunting, is more of a waiting game than a tracking one. You will have to bait your prey in as, in most cases, you cannot really see it because of the water. This is done with either a lure or actual bait such as worms or minnows or for big creatures, chum. Once you have baited your prey, it is much less simple than taking a shot with a rifle as one would do with a deer. You then have to reel it in. This will be relatively simple for those fishing for smaller harmless game such as what you might find in a lake. But if you are deep sea fishing it is important to remember that some game in the ocean is capable of breaking your fishing line so it is important to buy special deep sea lines if you are to go hunting in the deep sea. In many cases, such precautions are taken as to strap the fisherman into a seat on his or her boat so that the prey will not pull them into the water with them. Deep sea fishing is best reserved for experienced fishermen who are physically able. Fishing in a lake or pond is for everyone, young or old. Although fishing is not usually brought up as a form of hunting, it technically is one that has a variety of ways you can do it whether you are experienced or not.
Bow hunting can be done in combination with any one of the methods above (except fishing) and is defined as taking your game with the use of a bow and arrow instead of a fire arm. This is a common practice when hunting animal such as deer. Bow hunting requires both strength and skill and is only something that can be learned through months, sometimes years, of practice. It is challenging, not only to shoot the arrow accurately, but also to get close enough to your prey to get a good shot off. If you think you want to bow hunt but you are not skilled enough, you can stick to crossbow hunting for slighter challenge. All it takes to shoot is a flick of the trigger but you still have to get close to your prey and factor in the wind and distance to your shot. In some countries, crossbows are illegal but you are free to hunt with one as long as you have a special permit for it in America. For all the challenges it presents, bow hunting is as popular among many hunters but only for those looking to add an element of difficulty to their hunt. In most states, you will need a permit to go bow hunting and can only get this permit by passing a test that measures your marksmanship with a bow and arrow. This ensures that the bow and arrow is in safe hands when you go hunting. Bow hunting is one of the oldest forms of hunting in the world and in some parts of the world, firearms are restricted so bow hunting is the only way to take down game. This can make it something very useful to learn if you truly want to hunt in those places. All in all, bow hunting provides a great, but fun, challenge for experienced hunters looking to add a bit more primal flavor to their hunting trip.
